It's official: the FORMULA 1 MOËT & CHANDON AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2027 is locked in for 1- 4 April 2027 at the Albert Park Circuit — round three of a 24-race FIA Formula One World Championship™ season, and once again one of the most anticipated events on the Australian sporting calendar.
After two years opening the Formula 1® season, the FORMULA 1 MOËT & CHANDON AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2027 moves to a new slot on the calendar as the sport reshuffles its early-season running order — and for the first time, Melbourne will host a Sprint weekend, adding an extra day of flat-out action to the fast, flowing street circuit through the city's iconic parkland. It's the same electric race weekend Melbourne has become known for, backed by a full four days of racing, entertainment and hospitality.

Why Melbourne's slot has changed
Since 2022, the FORMULA 1 MOËT & CHANDON AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2027 has anchored the start of the Formula 1® season, twice opening the championship as round one. For 2027, an earlier finish to Ramadan clears the way for Bahrain to reclaim the season-opening slot, paired with Saudi Arabia as round two in a Middle East double-header. Melbourne moves to round three, kicking off a triple-header swing through the Asia-Pacific alongside Japan and China. It's a shift in running order, but certainly not significance — the Albert Park Circuit remains one of the most anticipated stops of the year, and now carries the added drama of a Sprint weekend.
What else is new on the 2027 calendar
- More Sprint action: the Formula 1® Sprint format expands from six to ten race weekends in 2027. Melbourne is among five venues hosting a Sprint for the first time, alongside Bahrain, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi.
- Türkiye returns: Istanbul Park rejoins the championship on a five-year deal through 2031, its first appearance since 2021.
- Portugal returns: the Algarve International Circuit at Portimão is back on a two-year deal.
- Spain heads to Madrid: the Spanish round moves to the Madring circuit in Madrid, pairing with Monza for a September double-header, while Barcelona-Catalunya continues to sit out.
- The Netherlands steps aside: Zandvoort's hosting deal concluded at the end of 2026.
- 24 races, 22 countries: Formula 1® and the FIA have confirmed a 24-round FIA Formula One World Championship™ across five continents for 2027.
